Teacher concludes by encouraging students to use the warfare weapons appropriately.
C. Text Review - Exodus 17: 8-16
Warfare is part of Christianity. To prevail in this inevitable exercise, believers need some of the following hints:
i. Believers must hold the Lord's rod in their hands as Moses did (thy rod and the staff- the words of God, they comfort me). Psalm 23
ii. Lifting up the rod may be interpreted to mean exalting the word of God, placing the word above our self, above our head and our thinking.
iii. Joshua and Hur were there to support Moses to lift up the rod could mean the power of unity or the unity of purpose in rightly positioning the rod of God. The intensity of the battle sometimes may bring weariness and one needs encouragement. Co-believers should understand that supporting the leader in the battle will not only bring victory to the leader but to them too.
iv. Believers- should note that whenever the name of the Lord, the word of God, or God's attribute; of holiness and righteousness are lifted up, the battle of life and enemies will be vanquished.
D. Teaching Method - Teacher should use lecture teaching method.
E. Time Management - 15 minutes for Opening, 30 minutes for Lesson Outline, Summary, Conclusion and Assignment, 15 minutes for General Review.
2. Lesson Outlines
i. LESSON OUTLINE 1 - "JEHOVAH NISSI"
i: Jehovah Nissi means the "Lord our Banner":.. Exodus 17: 14-16
ii. Why do we need Jehovah Nissi on our side?”
(a.) Because God is a man of war.
(b.) He teaches our hands to war.
(c.) Because God has never lost any battle before.
(d.) Because God has assured us of victory in our battles.
(e.) Because our enemies are not physical but spiritual and are crafty, old, powerful and are many e.g. demons.
Read Ephesians 6:10-12; 2 Tim. 2:3; I Tim. 1:18; I Tim 6:12; Exodus 23:27; I Samuel 17: 1-58; Luke 10: 19; Romans 8:35-37; I John, 5:4.
Class Activity 1 - In addition to demons, what are the enemies of the believers? How can afflictions be overcome?
ii. LESSON OUTLINE 2 - WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE
A. The following are some of the weapons of our warfare.
Class Activity1-2- How does the girdle of truth and gospel of peace be used as weapon of our warfare?
Hint! - Truth crushes lies of the devil Note that the word of God is truth. Jesus is truth. Note also that peace (Prince of peace) is also one of the names of Jesus. Peace message douses the strife for war.
Summary: The weapons of our warfare in God are effective to crush all our adversaries.
Conclusion: It is not an accident that Christians are soldiers. It is simply a matter of being true children of the Father who indeed is a warrior. Cast out fear but engage your weapons of warfare and victory is certain to come your way.
